Other shortcuts to reading the whole thing. Instead it is a synopsis of each Act and is way too wordy to be consider a 'short-cut'. Not the Cliff Notes I remember for years ago. Therefore, in the middle of Mark Antony's soliloquy, the words of Octavius Caesar suddenly appear, but with no indication of the change in speaker. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Rita G -- Never too late to catch up with a classic! : This was bought to remind myself of the plot and characters of Shakespeare’s play, prior to a visit to the National Theatre. I had previously read Robert Harris’s Cicero trilogy, which I can thoroughly recommend, and also watched the two plays based on these books - absolutely amazing. All of these have sparked an interest in Roman history so it was natural to be interested in Antony and Cleopatra. As always with Shakespeare, so much hidden in the text and I was glad to have read it again. The play was superb but was certainly enhanced by both a rereading of the text and Robert Harris’s books. They provide the background to the author and to the play. They explain the themes and the characters extremely well, so well in fact that you may feel that you don't need to read the actual play!
